Depending on the time of day, the weather, the traffic, and your point of view, driving straight west on Illinois Highway I-80 can seem anywhere from boring, to artistically compelling, to even downright, truck traffic, frightening. Sometimes, however, the light, the road, or the circumstance, allows the car to drive itself, and then it takes the passenger to another place. It is those times that the flat, mundane, mid-western landscape reveals itself to be something more.
During one of those trips, while driving alone, I found myself compelled to record some of the scenes. The photographs from that experience have provided a basis for the direction my work has taken, resulting in the series, Moving Pictures.
These images strive to suggest, the speed, immediacy and random instances one encounters in everyday life, but may seldom take the time to contemplate or appreciate.
